What is lab testing?

Lab testing evaluates samples of blood, urine, or tissue to screen for or diagnose health conditions. These tests provide objective information about your health, helping the team at Alpha Medical Clinic better understand your personal health needs so they can create an effective treatment plan.

The internal medicine practice does their own blood draws at the office so there's no need for you to go to another clinic for testing.

What are some of the types of lab testing?

There are many types of lab tests. Some of the testing the team at Alpha Medical Clinic may order include:

Complete blood count (CBC)

The CBC measures the cells in your blood, including white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. This test checks for anemia and infections and evaluates your nutrition status.

Basic metabolic panel (BMP)

The BMP measures your blood levels of glucose, sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, creatinine, and blood urea nitrogen (BUN). This lab test checks electrolyte balance for hydration, screens for diabetes, and evaluates kidney function.

Comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP)

The CMP includes the same blood measures as the BMP, plus your liver enzymes and certain blood proteins. This test provides information on how well your liver is working.

Hemoglobin A1C (A1C)

The A1C test screens for diabetes. It averages your blood glucose numbers over a three month period.

Lipid profile

The lipid profile checks your blood levels of cholesterol and triglycerides to screen for high cholesterol and your risk of heart disease.

Urinalysis

A urinalysis is a urine test that screens for diabetes and kidney disease. It’s also used to check for urinary tract infections (UTIs).

The team at Alpha Medical Clinic may also order lab testing to check for thyroid disorders or acute illnesses like the flu or COVID-19.

When do I need lab testing?

Your provider at Alpha Medical Clinic determines when you need lab testing. They may request lab work during your annual physical exam to screen for health conditions or during an immigration physical to check for contagious diseases.

They also do lab testing to monitor chronic diseases like diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease.

Lab testing provides valuable information about your health. For convenient, patient-centered care, call Alpha Medical Clinic or schedule an appointment online today.
